Job Purpose

This role is responsible for managing end to end (Warehousing and Outbound Transport) allowing maximum operational flexibility according to Customer Service, Quality, HSE and Cost targets for the Durban Distribution centre. Managing and improving the Warehousing/Distribution value stream as well as supporting the delivery of the service using the appropriate management methodology and the ability to monitor, and report on service delivery to the customers.

Oversee team across the provinces and offer support and guidance delivering an excellent service.

Key Accountabilities

• Responsible for the management of the Warehousing/Distribution Operations (Cost, Service, Quality) Maintain customer service levels (OTIF) 99.8%, analysis and address any non-conformances
• Contract management of the key service providers, review of key KPI's and aligned actions. Maintain relationship with service providers and drive KPI deliverables in line with SLA’s.
• Ensure all business logistics requirements are understood, documented and met (includes Operating manuals, & HSE Regulations)
• Development & execution of warehouse improvement programs, agreed Continuous Improvement actions.
• Ensuring timely and accurate availability of reports, metrics and databases required to manage Warehouse/ Distribution costs and service.
• Analyze fixed and variable cost elements to understand the impact on business and manage expenses.
• Ensure optimal utilization of resources. Monitor and maintain distribution Cost per litre (CPL).
• Responsible for accurate periodic stock checks and reporting Monitor and evaluate stock integrity. Always maintain SAP WMS integrity. Control and manage Warehouse damages to determine root causes, address deviations and Continuous review and investigation of Warehouse layout, storage, stacking and packing of materials and/or finished product to ensure optimized processes
• Negotiate and liaise with sales teams and customers in optimizing and developing transport and warehousing solutions to enhance customer satisfaction, through cost effective measures.
• Manage projects so that business benefits are delivered on time and within budget
• People management, understand local labour regulations and day to day management of workforce issues, including development of objectives and necessary training accordance with AkzoNobel HR systems tools and processes to achieve growth, development and realization of people talent. Lead and manage area in accordance with AkzoNobel values.
• Fully understand the Logistics market and supplier capability in the SSA, Import/Export regulations
• Comply with ISO 9001/14001 quality / environmental management systems & corporate
• Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) management system

Experience

• This position requires a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. B. Com or at least a three-year diploma in Warehouse Management / Materials Management / Logistics / Supply Chain Management), as well as at least 3 years managerial experience in a similar role
• Experience in a Chemical/FMCG or Retail focused environment is preferred. Expert knowledge of the current trends in planning and logistics is essential
• Understanding of the Road Traffic Act and HAZCHEM is a pre-requisite
• Sound knowledge and experience in working with SAP R3, WMS system using RF kit and the use of MS office is also pre-requisite
• Understanding and management of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 EMS and SHE Management systems would be preferred
• Experience in Unionized work environment is required
• Candidates who lack formal qualifications, but have the necessary experience, skills and knowledge in the required
• Ability to interact and positively influence all role-players in the supply chain, from suppliers through to customers, internal and external contacts
• An understanding of continuous improvement methods & processes
• Able to build & maintain good working relationships internally, with clients and suppliers
• Previous experience in managing a team competencies may also be considered.
