Job Purpose

  • As a product owner, you will be expected to have an excellent working knowledge of project management product management, customer co-creation, product design, channel management, commercialization and financial management
  • You will be the fulcrum in the balance between the market need, as articulated by customers and the banks delivery of product, service and experience against those needs.
  • You will be able to take insights from the market and and translate them into product offerings. You will test with customers and translate research findings into actionable agile projects as an important part of the banks digital, innovation and commercialization process.
  • You will be responsible for the successful and ongoing commercialization of the product or product portfolio and account to the relevant executive against agreed targets

Job Responsibilities

  • Communication – the ability to communicate at all levels, the role will require the Product Owner to be able to communicate effectively with their team, a peer network of stakeholders, senior executives, technical resources as well as staff in other parts of the business. 
  • Problem solving – the Product Owner will have to be able to assimilate information from a variety of sources, and develop a coherent strategy and product roadmap for meeting those needs.

  • Quality – the product delivery is the pinnacle of the organisations efforts. As such, the Product Owner must have high personal standards and always work to deliver the very best product. 
  • Project Management – working with the program management team and other agile team members, the Product Owner is responsible for ensuring that all facets of the project are delivered according to schedule. 
  • Creativity – The ideal candidate will be able to create a vision of a solution which stretches the team and delivers true innovation in the market place. 
    Leadership - The Product Owner will be responsible for leading a multidisciplinary team to achieve the project aims. Those resources will be under the direction of the Product Owner for the duration of the project. 
  • Organisation – as a regulated business in many countries, all project information and artefacts must be well managed and available. Using the Development Framework, the Product Owner must ensure that the project is well manage
  • Facilitate innovation workshops with clients
  • Co-ordinate the development and testing of prototypes
  • Management reporting on customer research activities.
  • Managed Financial and Business Results Ensure that all individual and department results are delivered within budget to deadlines
  • Ensure budget targets are met by effectively executing and complying to Divisional billing requirements and target
  • Ensure that transparent transfer pricing for provision of products and services for the business area are  being followed through
  • Activity Justified Transfer Pricing (AJTP) model (aligned to GT service model) by  establishing costs, prices and conditions
  • Ensure effective  targeted cost recovery through monitoring and ensuring all times are captured by staff on a weekly basis
  • Ensure quality projects / processes / systems delivered on time and are fully aligned to Nedbank's business requirements
  • Provide agreed information, resources, professional advice and  strategic contribution to relevant stakeholders on time, in budget, within quality standards
  • Ensured that all individual and department results were delivered within budget to deadlines
  • Delivered services to client expectations and Nedbank standards
  • Quality projects / processes / systems delivered on time and were fully aligned to Nedbank's business requirements
  • Provided agreed information, resources, professional advice and strategic contribution (on time, in budget, within quality standard)
  • Managed Stakeholder Relationships
  • Deliver services on client expectations and Nedbank standards  by ensuring the Service Level Agreement, Operational level agreements ,  contractual agreements, 
     

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

  • Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees

Preferred Qualification

Tertiary Qualification/ formal accreditation in Professional field

  • MMP/SMP / MM  or equivalent
  • BSC Computer science
  • BComm Information Technology
  • Post-graduate management qualification
  • MBA

Minimum Experience Level

6 to 8 years line management 10 years IT Industry experience

Essential Knowledge and Experience

  •     Experience working in a fast-moving idea-generating environment
  •     Experience managing design research, and product teams
  •     Experience working across emerging markets and mass-market demographics. 
  •     A good knowledge of research methods used in the development of evidence-based ideas generation
  •     Knowledge and experience in designing services and/or products for customers
  •     Ability to deliver against commercial targets
  •     In market experience engaging directly with customers 
  •     Effectively prioritise and deliver to deadlines
  •     Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and key stakeholders
  •     Planning, financial and analytical  skills
  •     Ability to respond positively to shifting priorities, demands and timelines
  •     A strong work ethic and a passion for drawing out and driving creativity, innovation and commercialization.
