The main purpose of this role is to perform general building maintenance duties which include but not limited to carpentry, minor electrical works, general plumbing, painting, general flooring, and ceiling repairs) The nature of this role requires someone with good health and physical fitness because it involves is a lot of moving around and carrying of reasonable furniture items.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure effective supervision of service providers as per the agreed scope of work.
- Inspection of residence for possible repairs and provide a report to the Facilities Officer
- Upkeeping of the workshop facility and performing any workshop-related duties.
- To clean light fittings and to test lighting systems weekly, replace minor parts where necessary such as tubes, bulbs, fuses, starters, and diffusers, by safe working practices.
- Attending to electrical faults (i.e. Replacing plugs, switches, stove plates, lamp holders, heaters, washing machines, dryers, and any other appliances.
- Attending to woodwork repairs involving changing or adjustments to doors, door locks, and fixing broken desks, chairs, wardrobes and shelves.
- The unblocking and removal of foreign matter from sinks, showers, toilets, drains, and kitchen grease traps. Fixing of leaking taps and continuously flushing toilets.
- Removing and replacing broken and cracked windows.
- Monitoring fire safety equipment and signs also to report any faults related to gas, electric and water supply to the Facilities Officer
- Performing master-key duties, (i.e. escorting technicians or service providers to student’s rooms etc.)
- Performing any other reasonable duties within the overall function of the job as and when required by the Facilities Officer
- Assisting with room clearance and room inspection when students are signing in and out of residence.
- To maintain appropriate records e.g. daily work record forms and job assignment sheets relating to repair orders and work carried out.
- Keeping an inventory of tools and bin cards of spares and accessories.

Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 Matric or Any NQF Level 4
Required Years of Work-Related Experience:
- 3-5 Years in General Building Maintenance or building environment
- Valid Driver’s license.
Added Advantage:
- Any relevant building maintenance certificate (i.e. plumbing, electrical, carpentry etc.)
