Position Purpose:
- Support the integration of security aspects related to the Transnet Fusion Centre.
- Responsible for supporting the Senior Specialist and the team on data analysis and reporting.
- The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring different sources of security-related information and further acquiring data for purposes of security analysis.
Position outputs:
- The Specialist Analyst (Security Integration) will conduct data analysis and mining activities, which is focused on physical security incidents prevention and detection in support of Transnet.
This includes the implementation of data searching and analysis methodologies which will identify past and potentially current occurring and future.

- The function will support current Security Integration insofar as conducting data analysis and reporting with respect to security incidents. This will include profiling of related internal or external entities and individuals associated with allegations on physical security incidents.
- The incumbent will also be responsible for the implementation of collation systems as well as database management and information extraction.
- Utilize relevant data analysis software in a cost-effective manner taking data import capability, visualization ability and matching capacity into consideration.
- Assist in the design and implementation of the database architecture in support of Security Integration aligned with Transnet IT architecture and IT security requirements.
- Identify, collect, collate, analyze, and interpret operational and strategic information relating to security threat data from multiple sources. Analyse and research threat actor-centric analysis, inter alia, in support of and in collaboration with the Operating Division to the central point. Provide high-quality periodic reporting on the threat landscape and its status at various seniority levels.
- Research and access new sources to enhance the analysis of information security threats to the Group Security.
- Apply appropriate analytical techniques, methodologies, and technologies to determine the potential threat and impact on Transnet.
- Liaise with key internal stakeholders regarding current and emerging threats.
- Provide ad hoc, daily, weekly, and monthly reports on the security situation.
- Develop, create, and drive current and new reporting methods of threat intelligence analysis for the purposes of situational awareness and making this intelligence actionable.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A degree or B Tech in social, law, military, police or management sciences with a focus on socio-economic research, sustainability, or related fields.
- Knowledge of basic social science research methodology and basic project management skills would be desirable.
- At least 5 to 8 experience in analysis in the security/crime intelligence/risk analysis environment.
- Experience and use of business intelligence tools, data mining and analysis software such as Power BI, IDEA, Audit Command Language (ACL), Tableu, Spotfire, Analyst Notebook, Microsoft Office Tools.
