The purpose of the Junior Travel Agent is to act as the client's main interface in planning and organizing clients' travel arrangements and learn about their travel requirements. The role is responsible for advising clients on suitable travel options in accordance with their needs, wants, and, budget. The role is instrumental in assisting clients to plan trips to domestic or non-RSA destinations, tours, accommodation, transport, insurance, and fares.

This role is based in JHB.

Job Objectives

  • Handle bookings from quote to finalizing, invoicing, and travel documents.
  • Manage the reservation process for bookings in a manner that ensures guest budget is achieved.
  • Suggest suitable travel options that best suite clients' needs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients.
  • Attract potential customers by answering product and service questions.
  • Create and update electronic records of clients.
  • Supply travellers with pertinent information and useful travel/holiday materials.
  • Research, explore and study different travel destination options.
  • Stay abreast with latest industry trends.
  • Use promotional techniques and prepare promotional materials to sell itinerary tour packages.
  • Handle unforeseen problems and complaints and determine eligibility for money returns.
  • Recommend potential product or service improvements to management by collecting customer information and analysing customer needs.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric - (essential)
  • Degree/ National Diploma / N4 or equivalent in travel & tourism - (essential)
  • Galileo Certification - (essential)

Experience

  • +1 years’ experience working in travel & tourism, or similar role within a sales and customer service function – (preferred)
  • Experience within the FMCG, retail sector, or similar - (preferred)

Knowledge and Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 with a basic level of Word skills – (essential).
  • High level of self-motivation and drive to set, meet and exceed on goals and expectations.
  • Curious and willing to learn – Proactively identifies new areas for learning; seizes learning opportunities and actively uses newly gained knowledge and skill on the job.
  • Detailed, rule-orientated and organised – Diligently follows instructions and procedures; vigilantly watches over work processes, tasks and outputs to ensure accuracy and initiates action to correct any quality concerns.
  • Organised - Plans and organizes own work effectively and delivers against deadlines and quality standards. Focuses personal efforts on achieving results aligned to organisational objectives.

  • Communicates well and confidently conveys information to various stakeholders. Good spoken and written fluency in English along with the ability to convey information/data clearly and accurately.

  • Able to work under pressure and under tight time constraints in a high-volume, fast-moving environment.
