Faircom is a leading Internet Service Provider (ISP) that connects you to the Internet through high-speed & uncapped fibre solutions, wireless fibre packages and VoIP connections. We work with leading underlying infrastructure providers (including our own) which boasts a direct connection to the London Internet Exchange.
We are looking for a Senior Cabling Technician (ISP) to install and maintain a copper cat6 and fibre network in and around Cape Town to enable the ISP to provide fast stable connectivity. Will also assist with the installation of wireless equipment.
Duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Node room inspections
- Conduct daily, weekly and monthly node & node room inspections
- Provide documentation of all information of cabling, routers, switches
- Improves upon existing installations and infrastructure
- Labelling & documenting of network equipment including routers, switches, cabinets, ports
- Crimping of cat5 / cat6 cabling

Last mile installations
- Performs cable installations, including new commercial cat5 / cat6 cabling
- Troubleshoot cabling a layer 1 networks
- Installation of routers and switches
Wireless installations
- Installation of wireless radios
- Documenting all areas of work
Voip phone installations
Service level
- Daily/Weekly/Monthly ongoing and continuous tasks
- Assist with installation of routers and switches.
Qualifications
- Matric
- Electrical qualification advantageous
- FTTH training and certifications advantageous
Experience and knowledge
- Proven experience in similar role
- Experience installing CAT5, CAT6, fibre.
- Crimping of CAT5 and CAT6 cables in accordance with TIA/EIA 568-B standards
- Best practises for patch management, server room and Node room maintenance and upkeep.
- Proficient in fault finding using OTDR, CAT5/6 testers and fibre laser fault finders.
- Experience fibre SFP modules and fibre converters
- Installing and alignment of wireless dishes, ensuring optimal signal levels
- Experience with fibre installations, joints and terminations.
- Experience working with and troubleshooting network devices (VOIP handsets, residential Routers, etc.).
