The purpose of this role is to conduct maintenance and to remedy breakdowns in the fields of electronics, mechanics, hydraulics and pneumatics, control, measurement, coding and inspection. Responsible for the efficient and effective operation of ALL Utilities Plants (WWTP, WTP, SHW, Emergency power plant, Compressed air plant, CO2 recovery plant, Refrigeration plant) in order to ensure continuous availability of all utilities to the production operations at large.
Core tasks:
Process:
Ensure that the Utilities process areas are operated in an optimal manner in order to achieve production targets.
- Adhere to the shift, daily and weekly Utilities plan.
- Ensure that all the required Utilities are available to start-up and to meet the production plan by communicating with Brew house, Ferment and Filtration Operators.
- Inspect the plant and equipment and ensure that it is available and set up for start-up and production according to plan.
- Start up, operate and shut down the plant according the relevant SOPs.
- Clean and sanitise the plant and equipment according to the relevant SOPs.
- Conduct quality tests to ensure cleaning and sanitising is done according to requirements.
- Carry out walk about inspections and take action on deviations.
- Measure and record process inputs, outputs and changes and take appropriate action where required.
- Capture, trend, display and action Utilities data, including short interval control data sheets, Process monitoring data [inputs and outputs], QC data and downtime data.
- Check and accept the plant as fit and safe for use after planned and or breakdown maintenance.

Compliance:
- Ensure compliance to the Utilities product quality standards.
- Take samples, perform quality analysis and record data as required against laid down methods and procedures.
- Perform and ensure adherence to reference sample analysis requirements and standards.
- Perform calibration and maintenance of equipment as per laid down procedures.
- Checks production performance against quality standards.
- Highlights defective Utilities to the relevant departments and TLS.
Teamwork:
Ensure that effective teamwork occurs within and across shifts and teams at different levels.
- Participate in end of shift SBU meeting and communicate problems and potential problems.
- Handover to the Operator of the next shift communicating performance, problems and changes that may impact on the shift.
- Participate in team goal setting.
- Identify and resolve conflict within the team.
Control:
Ensure that Utilities operational problems are identified and resolved at root cause level.
- Use utilities/brewing problem identification triggers to identify efficiency, quality and waste problems.
- Follow up on progress made to solve problems identified.
- Participates in formal Problem Solving.
- Participates in developing loop closing routines.
Safety, Health and Environment:
Ensure a safe working environment where all legal requirements are met in socially responsible manner.
- Ensure compliance with acts and procedures.
- Use PPE.
- Ensure correct storage, handling and disposal of hazardous substances.
- Report incidents.
- Adhere to safety and housekeeping standards.
- Participate in team risk management processes.
- Ensure the department operates within company SHE standards and OHS Act, through continued education and training and obtaining the co-operation and commitment of all staff to observe all safety rules, procedures and processes in order to drive zero accident mentality.
Maintenance:
Ensure the effective maintenance of the Utilities plant and equipment to meet Utilities production targets.
- Carry out maintenance tasks as per the schedules.
- Carry out external cleaning of the plant and work area according to standard procedures.
- Identify and communicate non routine and breakdown maintenance tasks to relevant personnel
- To solve breakdowns and resolve production disturbances effectively and as quick as possible
- Give continuous technical support to optimize machine performance during production in a shift system
- To conduct maintenance and inspections
- To submit proposals or to make modifications
- To give instructions to operators to resolve technical issues
- To adjust diagrams
- To manage and to update technical documentation
- To supervise technical standards and guidelines
To perform breakdown analysis and develop countermeasures and improvements

Authorizations:
- In conformity with the initialling authority
- To request store issues
- To release installations
- To issue working instructions
- To order the adjustment of software on account of breakdowns and to order the incorporation of adjustments in the version management system.
Responsibilities:
- To perform activities in the fields of control engineering, measuring and control as well as electrical and other mechanical/technical activities in accordance with the applicable standards, regulations and instructions.
- To ensure optimum cooperation within the Maintenance department and with the production departments.
- To initiate actions for improvement.
- To transfer knowledge to the production departments.
The following:
- To optimise maintenance activities.
- To effectively and efficiently deploy the maintenance personnel reporting to him.
- Ensure all work is executed based on priorities
- Organize 3rd party services to assist in maintenance execution, where necessary.
- To (co-)direct the development of professional technical knowledge within Production, particularly among the Operators
Qualifications:
- Valid Trade Test Certification (Electrician, Fitter, Millwright), N6 or Diploma Electrical/Mechanical with Trade test certificate added advantage
Experience:
- Basic Computer Literacy, SCADA
- 1-3 years’ post-trade experience in an automated FMCG production environment preferably Utilities
