Job Description: Responsibilities & Requirements
The main purpose of this position is to lend support on various oversight projects within the National Payment System Department (NPSD) and to conduct preliminary research.
Detailed Description
The successful candidate will be responsible for, among other things, the following key performance areas:
- Analyse financial market infrastructures (FMIs) and national payment system (NPS) participants' quantitative and qualitative data and compile thorough, concise and reliable reports covering payment system issues.
- Identify and highlight risk problems and challenges based on the analysis and provide preliminary reports to the analysts within the Oversight and Supervision Division.
- Participate in engagements with FMIs, NPS participants and stakeholders and present sections of department reports on FMIs, risk profiles of NPS participants and stakeholders and approaches to risk management.
- Monitor FMIs and NPS participants’ risk status and their responses to the NPSD’s recommendations.
- Conduct specialist analysis of payment system risk areas at an FMI, NPS participant or at industry level.
- Prepare for risk meetings conducted by analysts.
- Provide inputs and compile reports on industry-wide or NPS participant or stakeholder-specific risk.
- Review submissions by FMIs and NPS participants.
- Support the oversight of the NPS, including FMIs and regional infrastructures and compliance with the principles for financial market infrastructures (PFMIs).
- Support interchange determination for payment systems.
- Lend support to the Supervisory Unit of the Oversight and Supervision Division, when required.
- Keep abreast of and monitor any innovation and fintech developments within the NPS.
- Conduct research into payment-related matters, including FMIs and payment systems, and keep abreast of oversight and supervisory developments and best practices.
- Support the continuous improvement of the oversight process and the updating of changes to oversight methods and processes.
- Provide support to management, senior analysts and analysts with regard to the domestic, regional and international oversight committees.
- Assist in maintaining the Oversight Procedure Manual.
- Assist in providing training and communication on oversight matters, where required.
- Perform administrative tasks in support of the senior analysts and management, which includes preparing programmes, setting up meetings (logistics), taking minutes, filing documents and writing follow-up letters to industry participants.

Job Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must be in possession of:
- at least a Bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) in Commerce, Economics, Science, Finance, Risk Management or Accounting or an equivalent qualification;
- a minimum of two to five years’ experience in the banking or financial sector; and

relevant payment system experience would be an added advantage.
